Will God Forever Cast Us Off? (Mear) 49b

Tune: A Sett of Tunes, 1720
Alto: B. P. Poyner, 1902
Lyrics: Isaac Watts, 1719
Meter: Common Meter (8,6,8,6)
Will God forever cast us off?
His wrath forever smoke
Against the people of His love,
His little chosen flock?

Where once Thy churches prayed and sang
Thy foes profanely rage;
Amid Thy gates their ensigns hang
And there their host engage.

No prophet speaks to calm our grief,
But all in silence mourn;
Nor know the time of our relief,
The hour of Thy return.

Our foes would triumph in our blood,
And make our hope their jest;
Plead Thy own cause, Almighty God,
And give Thy children rest.
