Parting Friends 308

Tune: Elias Lafayette King, 1850
Alto: John Malcolm Cruse Shaw, 1902
Lyrics: Charles Wesley, 1749
Meter: Common Meter Double (8,6,8,6,8,6,8,6)
What is there here to court my stay,
And keep me back from home,
When angels beckon me away,
And Jesus bids me come?
Shall I regret my parting friends
Here in this vale confined?
Nay, but where’er my soul ascends
They will not stay behind.

Then let me suddenly remove,
That hidden life to share;
I shall not lose my friends above,
But more enjoy them there.
There we in Jesus' praise shall join,
His boundless love proclaim,
And solemnize songs divine,
The marriage of the Lamb.
